Calling 999 contacts the emergency ambulance service.

This is a service that should be used if someone is seriously ill, injured or in life-threatening emergencies. Examples of medical emergencies include:

  • loss of consciousness
  • an acute confused state
  • fits that are not stopping
  • persistent, severe chest pain
  • breathing difficulties
  • severe bleeding
  • severe allergic reactions
  • severe burns or scalds

This service is free from all landline and mobile phones and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
