Guide to making appointments
Appointments are available to book up to 4 weeks in advance.
Doctors' appointments are made up of pre-bookable appointments, (appointments can be a face-to-face consultation at the surgery or a telephone consultation) and same day appointments. There are also, of course, some emergency slots.
Surgeries generally run from 8.30am to 12.30pm, then 2pm to 6pm. The surgery is open from 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday. In addition, there are some extended hours appointments available on Thursday and Friday mornings 7am to 8am with the nurse or doctor and Wednesday evenings, 6.30pm to 7.30pm with the doctor.
The majority of nurse appointments are pre-bookable, but there are usually also a few available on-the-day. The length of teh appointment will vary depending on the reason so please make sure you inform the receptionist of the reason for the appointment when booking.
On a normal weekday there is a duty doctor whose appointments are blocked i.e. not pre-bookable until 8am that day. For other doctors, their slots are a mixture of those which have already been pre-booked (these are made available to book at various intervals - 4weeks, 2 weeks,1 week and 2 days prior to the appointment date), and those which are released on the day.
For urgent appointments and other same-day appointments, we are not always able to offer a choice of doctor. If you need a non-urgent appointment with a specific doctor, it is advisable to pre-book the appointment if possible.
There are a limited number of appointments each day. If these are all booked you may be advised to go to the walk-in centre or urgent care centre or you may be offered an appointment with the extended access service at Lewisham Hospital.
